About InfraLayer

Built for businesses that want a South African team, not an outsourced function

InfraLayer helps international businesses build dedicated teams in South Africa without establishing their own local employing entity or assembling the operating infrastructure themselves.

The client defines the roles, selects the people and manages their work. Employees are employed locally through InfraLayer's South African EOR partner. InfraLayer manages the EOR relationship and the client-facing employment, payroll and HR administration delivered through that partner, while providing the wider operating infrastructure around the team.

Your team. Your systems. Your management line. InfraLayer provides the infrastructure underneath.

Finding the right people is only the beginning

International businesses can access strong professional talent in South Africa.

The harder part is building everything required around the employees:

  • local legal employment
  • payroll and statutory administration
  • HR administration and governance
  • equipment and connectivity
  • power resilience
  • local technical support
  • professional workspace

Businesses have traditionally had to arrange these elements separately or choose an operating model that changes who controls the team and the work.

InfraLayer was created to provide another route. It brings the employment and operating infrastructure together while the client retains direct control of the employees, systems, processes and performance.

InfraLayer calls this model Offshore Infrastructure.

Four infrastructure layers around one dedicated team

Your team

Yours

You define the roles, set the priorities, hold the reporting line and own the output.

InfraLayer provides and runs the four layers beneath

  1. Layer 01

    Talent sourcing

South African professionals are sourced against the client's requirements, or InfraLayer onboards someone the client has already identified. The client interviews, assesses and makes the final selection.

  2. Layer 02

    Employment and compliance

Local employment is provided through InfraLayer's South African EOR partner, which is the legal employer. Payroll, statutory administration, benefits and formal HR processes are delivered through that employment framework.

  3. Layer 03

    Technology and technical infrastructure

Locally procured corporate equipment, device setup and deployment, connectivity, power resilience, local technical support and replacement-hardware coordination are provided where agreed.

  4. Layer 04

    Physical workspace

Professional Cape Town workspace and dedicated team environments are available where required. Workspace is not required for every engagement.

Start with the operating requirement

InfraLayer does not begin with a fixed package. The starting point is the team the client wants to build.

The requirement normally covers:

  • roles and responsibilities
  • required experience and seniority
  • team size and expected growth
  • reporting lines
  • working hours and time-zone alignment
  • systems and access
  • remote or workspace requirements
  • equipment and connectivity
  • local employment requirements

InfraLayer then defines the sourcing, employment and operating infrastructure required to support that team.

Responsibilities are agreed before anyone is hired. The client manages the people and the work. InfraLayer manages the EOR relationship and provides the wider physical and technical infrastructure underneath.

Built for international businesses establishing dedicated South African capability

InfraLayer's primary commercial focus is mid-market companies, PE portfolio businesses and high-growth scaleups across the UK, Western Europe and North America. Selected larger enterprises and other international organisations may also fit where the operating requirement, management model and working schedule are suitable.

Six business cases for building a South African team

  1. Employees already identified in South Africa
  2. Employees integrated into an existing operation
  3. South African talent sourcing
  4. A focused functional team
  5. Supported remote working or professional Cape Town workspace
  6. Direct control of the team and the institutional knowledge it builds

InfraLayer supports dedicated professional teams across Finance and Accounting, HR and People, Technology and Data, Marketing and Digital, and Operations and Transformation. The same infrastructure model can support one role, a functional team or broader capability.

InfraLayer can also work alongside transformation, transaction and Target Operating Model (TOM) advisers where dedicated South African capability forms part of a wider client programme.

A business can begin with one employee and build from there.

The team operates inside the client's business

The client controls

  • Role design

  • Corporate systems and access
  • Technical and role-specific training
  • Daily priorities and work allocation

Built from practical experience

InfraLayer was founded by John Huskinson, whose career has focused on building and recruiting professional teams for UK and European businesses across the UK and South African talent markets.

That experience exposed a recurring gap. Businesses could source people, employ them through an EOR or outsource the work, but the employment layer, technical infrastructure, workspace and direct client control were rarely brought together through one client relationship.

InfraLayer was created to close that gap. Talent sourcing is one layer of the model. The infrastructure underneath is the business.

John has built and run a South African team for his own business, and the model InfraLayer provides is the one he had to assemble himself.

Common questions about InfraLayer

Is InfraLayer an Employer of Record?

Not as a standalone EOR service. Employees are legally employed through InfraLayer's South African EOR partner, which is the legal employer. InfraLayer manages the EOR relationship as part of a wider model that can also include talent sourcing, equipment, connectivity, power resilience, technical support and workspace.

Does the client need its own South African entity?

No. Employees are employed locally through InfraLayer's South African EOR partner, so the client does not need to establish its own South African employing entity.

Is InfraLayer a recruitment company?

No. Talent sourcing can form part of an engagement, but it is one part of the wider employment and operating infrastructure required to build a South African team.

Can InfraLayer support one employee?

Yes. A business can begin with one employee already identified, ask InfraLayer to source an initial hire or build a broader team.

Is InfraLayer a BPO or managed service?

No. InfraLayer does not manage the client's business function or take responsibility for operational output. The employees work within the client's business and are managed by the client.

Where is InfraLayer based?

InfraLayer is based in Cape Town, South Africa. The model can support remote employees, professional workspace and dedicated team environments depending on the client's requirements.
